F to the O

February 27, 2010

i have been a big time slacker with my posting and picture taking lately, so yesterday i got all of my recent things together and took pictures of them all.  like always this will be a long photo post.

first the hats…

this is ysolda’s urchin.  knit out of hand spun electrically pink mohair that lily gifted me because it was just too ridiculously pink. i love it.

this hat is made out of homespun wool and dog hair.  the brim is noro and mirasol i think.  i’m big into bows and tassels right now if you can’t tell.

i also made my first cowl…

made out of handspun indigo dyed wool.

and now… a great accomplishment!!!

i dyed, spun, designed, and knit this sweater!! whew!!!

now for the spinning…

bulky acid dyed corriadale

“forgotten innocence among the poppys”

acid dyed corriadale. mostly sock weight with really thick parts wrapped in black sewing thread.

“inebriation in mauve”

sock weight acid dyed corriadale

and one lonely felting project…

i finally made a pair for myself!!! i have more of these to come. at least two pairs.

well thats it for now.  i will try to be more diligent about my photo taking and blog posting!

here he is!!!

colin james

01-25-10

7 lbs 2 oz

19.5 inches

i had a wonderful (but way too short) trip to austin!!!  the next time i see him he might be walking!!!

i knit that pink sweater a couple years ago.  it is the kelly cardigan by erika knight.  it is my favorite thing i have ever knit and i wear it ALL the time.

i also got to give some knitted little goodies while in austin…

i made baby colin a hat and a pair of booties out of some handspun alpaca and merino. the hat was a tad too big and the booties too small but they were cute on him nonetheless.  i also couldn’t get a pic that justifies their cuteness!

i made these for my dad out of handspun and dyed corriadale.  they fit him perfectly!!

i also gave my best friend rye his christmas present…

i guess these could be my *warm socks 5* they are made out of lopi lite (like always)  and i used the same recipe for all my other warm socks just a little bigger and i added some design.  he loves them!!

and i love him!!

HURRAY FOR LITTLE BROTHERS!!

great balls of fiber!!!

February 12, 2010

acid dyed corriadale!! all of this is already spun but i have been slacking in the documentation department.  i’ll take pics in a couple of weeks when i get back from austin, tx.

which leads me to my next big news!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my baby brother was born on january 25! his name is colin james d’eimon.  i am in portland right now at a hotel impatiently awaiting my flight tomorrow that will take me to meet him for the very first time.  i am really so far beyond excited!!!  there will be a long post once i get there with lots of pictures of him and all the presents that i am bringing him and our parents!!

January 6, 2010

since i haven’t written in weeks, this is going to be a long photo tour.

first of all i finished my fourth pair of warm socks.  they are wonderful and warm.  i knit mohair into the toe and heel for warmth and reinforcement.

and now here is a giant photo tour of my happenings and creatings.

hand dyed corriadale

more hand dyed corriadale spun into sock yarn… there will be much MUCH more of this. i just bought and dyed 4 lbs of corriadale and it is all intended to be sock yarn.

ART YARN

natural wool with commercial roveing cocoons and beads wrapped with sewing thread.

corriadale spun with bits of stringy material and beads.

corriadale spun with quiviut and wrapped with sewing thread.

indigo dyed wool with natural wool cocoons spun with glass beads and wrapped with verigated orange sewing thread.  this one is by far my favorite yarn i have ever spun.  it reminds me of them gila river!

wool spun with lace and beads wrapped with thread.

the indigo girls sock yarn

wool and suzie fur.

SPINNING INTO 2010!!!!!

HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!!

…but there was no time to ponder how that could have happened. bianca and i went on a pilgramage to halcyon yarn in bath, or as we like to call it, mecca. it took us three and a half hours to get there and to our dismay we ended up on the doorstep 15 minuets before they closed. it was bad, but i still have nightmares about the horror and tears had we showed up 20 minuets later. we didn’t have much time to look around but i did get what i went there for. i got 2 lbs of cream colored roveing for dying. i gave bianca another $100 for as many lbs or coriadalle as she can buy then next time she goes by there in a week.

i used some i lily’s dyes. country classics i think they might be.

i want to make erika knight’s v-neck sweater on the cover of classic knits. since the crockpot only holds about a third of a pound i have to dye each patch seperatly and it is really hard to duplicate a color. oh well i think i will like it like that.

i also have tried my hand at spinning art yarn.

this is wool from the sheep on the farm that i carded then spun with bits of black fabric from my medusa costume 2 halloweens ago, and some shells and beads that used to be my favorite necklace.

hmmmm…. what else. oh yeah i made some earrings out of some feathers i found on top of a hay bale the other day.

well thats it for now… have a happy lunch.

warm socks (tertiary)

November 29, 2009

these are by far the warmest and most comfortable…

my next pair will be just like these but green and i think i am going to knit some mohair into the toes to make them a little warmer, and maybe at the heal for a little reinforcement.

a little spinning for dessert…

yum.

this is mahair from lily’s goats and i think it is mixed with a little wool.  lily dyed it.  it is like butter, or like a mainer would say… buttah.

that’s it for now.  have a happy day!

fiber mania (and pizza)

November 21, 2009

i have new toys!

i don’t technically own this, but it is in my possession for the next year!

yeah spinning!!!

and plying!!!

this is also in my possession for the next year…

loads of fun to come!!

lily and i made pizza too…

the crust was absolutely perfect and all the toppings came from the farm. i am so lucky!!!!!

darthia farm!

November 14, 2009

fun fun fun on the farm… then two days after i landed there i got the swine flu

swine fluas lame as lame can be.

at least i had my very own little cabin and my very own little kitchen to feel like shit it.

kitchensuprisingly, i did a lot of cooking whilst sick…

pumpkin breadi made pumpkin bread.  which is a combination of these ingredients in an assortment of measurements…

fresh pumpkin mash, oatmeal, milk, whole wheat flour, nutmeg, sugar, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, baking powder and soda, and molasses.  it wasn’t very sweet… just how i like it.

i also made mixed bean soup

bean soupvery good!!!!!!

now on to fiber fun.  i am essentially a spinners apprentice.  i haven’t done any spinning yet, but thats probably because she didn’t want any swine flu in the yarn,  probably would have to charge extra for that!  i did get to play with this…

roveing1

fluff1

fluff2i’ll be carding it in a couple of days!

i haven’t had time to take pictures of the farm of the critters yet but i have tomorrow off and that is on my list.

wooly aspirations.

November 5, 2009

i finally got around to taking pictures of my socks.
warmies2

warmies3they are pretty warm, but not the warmest in the world. i think i’ll take lessons from smartwool.

i have also started a sweater, useing…

llopiit is going to be a long sleeve raglan with the durrow cable pattern down the center of the back. i’m about half-way done so more on that later.
